I'm actually away from the hobby dungeon at the moment and will be mostly for the next two weeks, I have a post in the wings but I am pretty cuaght up so if I can I will try and get that posted but you probably won't hear much from me in the next couple weeks... which now that I think about it isn't really abnormal based on my recent post schedule. Back again with some more Soda Pop goodness and the next installment of my

SUPER! Dungeon Explore - Review,

Again let me apologize for how sub-par the pics are, they are from the same batch the last time a played, anyway onto the review-part the 2nd! Last time I mostly talked about how awesome the models are. This time I want to go over some of the game play, and components for the game.

The whole purpose of this game, much like many video games of yesteryear, is to kill the end boss. Pretty straight forward, and would seem repetitive but honestly how many hours have you logged on Zelda, or Gauntlet, and don't let me even start on Final Fantasy Tactics... (I still have the same file I have been working on for years! my main dood is like a master of half the job classes...) which all in all are all pretty repetitive games.

Berserker Babe and Dwarf Fighter

For Super Dungeon the replay-ability comes i the form of the heroes and the power-ups. Without further expansion the Consul has a limited amount of variety. In the rules it says choose a dungeon boss, well there is only one dungeon boss! So clearly they had expansions in mind when they were writing the main rule book, but at this point the consul is basically on auto pilot.

The heroes on the other hand have 9 race/classes to choice from, and 10 if you jumped on the limited edition Candy and Cola mini like I did. Each one has a few stats and a heart and potion maximum. Hearts are health (go figure) and potions are a unique power each hero gets that has a whole range of effects depending on which character fired up their magic brew. Each character's stats and powers and all of their special rules are included on their game card.

Ok here is one of my gripes about the game: the cards are not made of the best materials, don't get me wrong I have heard other people bash the quality of these components (cards especially) and they aren't complete garbage but their importance to the game and the fact that many od the rules are not found anywhere outside the cards is a mistake IMHO. Once Soda Pop gets their website up and running maybe there could be downloads of the cards, but as of now half the rules to play the game are contained on cards that are of medicore quality.

All of the random elements of the game are determined by stats ad color coded dice. No math, no charts, if your character has a two blue dice icon then you simply roll those dice against your opponents' roll and whomever gets more stars (pips) wins the roll off. There are blue, red, and green. Blues are the weakest but also have hearts, where reds are better but have potions, and green is the bestest best and has a heart and potion face. if you roll a heart then you get heal a heart on a hero, if you roll a potion a hero gets a potion... the consul treats hearts and potions as blanks though, he gets no potions or hearts :(

Anyway back to the gameplay. The heroes come out of a 'start' button they place near an entrance and the consul gets spawning points a la Gauntlet where he can pump out his minions from. Depending on the size of game the heroes get more and the monsters get more points to spawn, as well as there being more boards to expand the size of the dungeon. In fat the game seems to scale based on a formula: 1 board tile = 1 hero = 1 spawning point. an 8-bit game is two board tiles, 2 heroes and two spawn pints, a 16-bit game is 3,3 and 3. So the balance is nice and the differences between the heroes leads to alot of variety, and as expansions come out (hopefully!) the Consul should be able to mix up his forces enough to really keep the game fresh.

In closing, the game as a whole rocks, it is super fun-super explore! and the components are generally great... except the cards, they are not completely effed, but they are definitely not Fantasy Flight grade cards. The boards for the game are great the rulebook, although somewhat confusing to read, is very nice and shiny and the minis are excellent so the fact that cards fell a little flat is totally forgivable but if you do drop $90 on this bad boy make sure to grab around 100 card sleeves while you're at the store becuase you will want them. I have never used them before but after two gaes I went out to get them. Geekily enough I bought blue and red backed sleeves for the treasure and loot cards and clear ones for the heroes and monsters.

Anyway I digress, but you should definitely check this game out for a fun hobby project and a game that plays easy enough for a young child or non-gamer could easily get into, but with enough strategy, models, and hobby content to keep the hardcore gamer interested as well. Overall this a Buddy favorite and I have already put it into my list of favorite games and really look forward to seeing where this goes and where Soda Pop minis goes as a company.

ps... based on how much I enjoyed the models and this game I went ahead and ordered a Relic Knight Mecha pin-up girl thing and will be posting about that as well soon... Man Soda Pop really got its anime-inspired claws unexpectedly right into me!

So, I know I am a little late to the party on this one but really you gotta check this out.

++ Custodes in Plastic: Finecast Edition ++

Hello Buddys,

Just to make sure everyone knows that have not been completely won over by the cuteness that is Soda Pop's Super Dungeon Explore I wanted to drop some Grim-Dark-Future-Only-War on that @$$!

Here is the newest addition, and crown jewel in many ways, to my Custodes army. He is my new stand in for Crowe and I think is a much better hero then the other more standard 'swordsman' guy I had before.

As many keen-eyed hobbyists out thee noticed this the =][= Coteaz model in Finecast with his head and all other =][= symbols shaved off and properly Custoded out. Since his fur was so emphasized and often Custodes are depicted without backpacks I decided that he would not have a backpack, and since he is the leader of the Custodes army he can do whatever he likes...

Some features of note are the lion claws I added to his cape and I intentionally selected Lion themed bits from the high el sprue for him, including a little lion head on his helmet. So this guy is like the lion of the Eagles.. or something... It works visually and there is no confusion he is a custodes... right?

Seriously though, another feature I am very happy with is his Guardian Spear. It is made using the Warding Stave handle so there is fancy crosshatched grip on the haft and the bolter itself is from the Space Marine Commander kit so has some extra blingy texture on it. Overall it gives him that extra bump in detail that I feel leaders should have, especially if you are leading the most elite force in the 31st millennia

and the base is made from the limited run mines, bombs and booby traps kit GW splashed a couple years back, along with some other debris. The thing I love about it though is the fact that the rubble completely eclipses the little 25m base under there.

And of course It would be a size comparison if there wasn't a space marine in there... so there ya go he even came out pretty imposing in the scheme of things.

Overall I had a good time making this guy and he really signifies the end of the construction phase for the Custodes army outside some of the vehicle stuff I want to get to eventually. I will try to get some group shots for everyone and then I just need to keep painting the frigging things O.o

Although lately the guard army ha been calling me back, I think all this Grey Knights hate is harsh-ing my mellow, so I might have to go back to the renegades and get those guys painted up before I finish off the Custodes...When did guard become not hated and Grey Knights hated?!?
Anyway, we'll see, but the Guard does deserve to come back into the limelight after their long hiatus in their foam "robot bed" as my daughter calls their battle foam case.

Hello Interwebs, It's Buddy Times Review Times!

This is SUPER! Dungeon explore the review. So let's start with the miniatures and components then move into the game itself. Sorry the pics are sub par, I took them after our SUPER! game the other night haven't had a lot of time down in the dungeon lately for photo opportunities, but you get the idea...

ANGRY BEAR!

The models are of a rubbery-ish-resin-y plastic that I have never worked with before, but was very easy to work with. I have never assembled any of the Warmachine stuff but these may be similar products, this is purely speculation based on what I have heard or read.

Berserker and Dwarfish Fighter

The fact that these models come in bags of bits was an interesting change of pace then just having sprue piled high. A word to the wise the bags are sorted into groups of models, all of which are multi-piece with emphasis on multi. Each one of these little guys are from three - seven pieces each, some of which are tiny and there are like 50 some models. It took two medium hobby sessions to get all of them scraped, based and glued (used Gorilla Super glue, my current super glue of choice) Overall a nice little miniature adventure, and could probably be sped up or slowed down based on what you were feeling, I really wanted to get these things into the dungeon though so I did my fastest yet thorough job possible: about four hours.

Paladin vs. Dragon

The good guys and treasure chest are in grey plastic and the evil minions of cutesy doom are cast in red. There are nine heroes but the druid has his Angry Bear form so there are ten hero models and five chests. The heroes are pretty intricate and fairly dynamic for how detailed yet simple they are. As far as the size comparison goes these heroes are slightly shorter then a space marine {clearly the universal size for a model ;) } but not by much, and the bear is quite large. as you can see below.

Overall I really like the models, in quality and execution of the 'chibi' style, whether you like it not it is very cohesive and crisp throughout the entire range of models. The style itself has completely grown on me and I am totally looking forward to painting these little guys. Hopefully I can make some headway and post pics in the next two weeks.

Actually playing this lately motivated me to bust out the old PSone and get in some Final Fantasy Tactics before bed a couple times, and I actually think that is the best comparison to style I can come up with.

These are great models and basically a great value comparatively speaking. The whole box clocks in at around 90 bucks and since you get about 50 models, and a couple of those are larger then standard so I feel like that alone is worth it not even considering all the other shizzle that comes in the box.

I know I been out of the lop for awhile but here I am, back again. Progress on the Custodes has been slow, although somewhat steady... But that my friends is not what I am here to share with you today, oh no what I am here to share today is:

Super Dungeon

Explore

Alright, I am sure many people have heard about this game and have been curious or wondering what the deal is, and I have to say after playing it a few times at the 8-bit and 16-bit modes it is pretty frigging fun. Now I don't think this is (obviously) a super serious game although there is a certain level of strategy and tactics at play. BUT: If rolling dice (shiney colored dice :D ) and pushing models around does not sound like fun, then this game is not fun for you. But if you do like pushing models around and rolling dice then you may like this. What is this Super Dungeon Explore you ask?

Imagine the love child of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Heroquest while the four characters from Gauntlet cheered on... Wow did I just reveal some weird Freudian thing?!?

Moving on, The game is interesting because the play and reset time is not very long at the smaller levels making it something you can bust out and get through a couple games pretty quick even with the gamer uninitiated. The game-play is simple enough but has options and intricacies. The rules are delivered via cards that correspond to the heroes/villains they represent functioning as a character sheet and cheat sheet for special rules. Personally I am not a huge card person but these cards have a good mix of actual game mechanic and pretty picture to look at. The game aspect is that they function as a place to put the various counters that are required for play and give you the stats in easy to read colored icons... Roll this many dice of this color... Easy, straight forward.

The overall visual design is appealing to everyone I know who has seen it so far from my 3 year daughter (who loves angry bear) to my old-school gamer buddies... well I guess that is actually a pretty small spectrum from some perspective. Needless to say if you want a change from the Grim Dark Blood & Skulls then this a game were the body-count is ridiculously high but the reality level is proportionally low making it a candy colored slaughter fest.

Unfortunately I do not have any pics of my set right now but I will get some and post them soon, as well as a overview of the contents. So look for more SDE action to come becuse this is something I will be working on, on and off for awhile.

+ WIP IT! Chicken Dread in Yo Face +

Hello Intertubes,

Hope all is well out there in the warp and welcome back to another edition of Buddy Times. Today I wanted to dropsome hobby WIP's on that backside. I call it the chicken pattern Dreadnought and he is for my Custodes army that I am making some good progress on. So have a look and sorry that he has been primed black, I though I had already taken ics of him but I hadn't.
I wanted to give him height to match some of the old pre-heresy art, and I happened to have a sentinel and an Assualt on Black Reach dread laying around so viola! Chicken Dread in da house.

Here's a shot so you can see how the legs fit and add so much hieght.

I put the power plant from the sentinel on him to mix it up a bit.

And finally a comparison shot so you can see how tall he is com[pared to one of my Custodes and a basic marine.

Well what does everyone tink? Is it going in a good direction? I will showcase the arms in another post, I just completed a new autocannon conversion for the right arm that I am pretty into so I wil try and get some pics of that up soon as well. + WIP IT! Custodes Guardian Squad gets some Acrylic Love +

Hello everybody out on the tubes,

Just wanted t drop a quick show and tell to let everyone know that Hashshashin does paint, even though I clearly enjoy modeling and building better. Anyhow this a mid-way WIP of Squad A, or Squad Sword as they are marked on their Rhino.

The Gold is airbrushed three colors of: Shining Gold from GW, Gold fro m the Vallejo Model Air line, and lastly a light dusting of Bright Brass from Model Air as well. All of these are over a brown base coat.

Then the whole thing is washed with GW Sepia to re-goldify it and blend the Air Brush layers, afterwhich I will add line highlights of gold or Bright Brass dependeing on the local. The Red is still in progress, and will be getting a bit more Blood Red before I do some washing and weathering along the bottom edge wear the robes/capes would be dragging on the ground.

^ This guy is the only one who I have started on the face .^ So far it's is just the GW foundation flesh color (I forget the name and don't feel like descending into the dungeon right now. maybe Tallarn flesh or something???). The faces are so small that I don't think they will be that hard to paint but I am curious how it will look because it is the only flesh on the model and is teeny-tiny.

So here's the last two guys in the squad, another Halberd and the counts-as Psi-Cannon dude.

Anyways always looking forward to any comments or criticism. Particularly is the gold "gold" enough? I think it works and is unique to most other golds I have seen, which was one of the goals. Thanks again for stopping by for Buddy Times and we'll see ya on the tubes.

+ WIP IT! Legio Custdes Terminator: Take 1 +

Hello Intertubez,

Alright so now internet back online (It was down for a couple of days and I realized I am totally addicted to the intertubez) and borrowed a friends camera to get some shots of a odel I just finished a couple nights ago. He's the test run for my Custodes Terminators and I think it turned out pretty good.

So I have yet to see a picture of a terminator with a guardian spear but since the Grey Knight book doesn't allow Terminators to rock power fists I though it would fit the theme of the army to give him a Guardian spear but I put a stormbolter at the tip instead of just the regular bolter on the Power Armoured guys.

The main themes I chose to emphasize are the shoulder pads, the Roman styled armour strips that hang from the shoulder pads and off the waist, the pointed collar and the head/helmet style.

Overall I think it works pretty well and I have to say that the new plastic Grey Knight Termies are a nice kit with tons of extra bits. If you like terminators or hand to hand combat arms fr terminators or are starrting a true scale army this box rox.

aAnyways hope to get some more regular posts up now that I have got all my ducks in a rowe as far as camera usage and internets functionality.

Hello Intertubez,

Hope everyone is well. I have been having some issues with my camera coupled with a lack of internet at the new man cave 3.0 'the Dungeon' makes having a photo driven hobby blog a bit difficult. I keep trying to think of clever insightful things to write that pertain to 4ok or the hobby in general, like some in-depth tactica, or an amaze-ballz insight into the downfall of GW based on their wicked and evil practices of being a for-profit business but I can never come up with such things that deserve anything more than the label of random 'thinking' rather than something to vomit forth unto the world...

Soon I will have a camera up and running (money permitting) or will be borrowing random cameras from friends until then and getting some updates on the Custodes as well. Finished a test model type guy and am going to start on Squads 1 & 2 soon. Sword and Hammer squad respectively. I also wanted to get some picks up of my new 3.o man-cave aka 'the Dungeon,' my finest-cast* man-cave thus far.

Anyway I digress thanks for coming by to share some buddy times and I wanted to let people know that I am also going to be joining the Independent Character's podcast's Hobby Challenge and the Custodes are going to be the doods of choice for my hobby goal. The goal is by next May I will have an 1850 completed (fully assembled and painted) and with my hobby ADHD I thought a little support like that would help me stay on target. Since I have a low model count that helps but since each model is so thoroughly converted that finishing the models alone is challenge and that is somewhat of a handicap. Overall I think it is going to be fun.

+ WIP It! Techmarine with Conversion Beamer +

Hello Everybody,

Thought I would do some more show and tell for everyone. Here is my Techmarine with conversion beamer. I will likely not be including this guy into my Custodes list but I have had the idea and bits laying around for awhile and while I was waiting to get the last boxes I need (final GK box as well as GK termies) I threw this guy together. The initial motivation was the face and the beamer. A hooded face with robot eye plus re-breather just screamed Mechanicus to me.

So here he is:

Why the conversion beamer, you may ask... Well it's pre-heresy and it can shoot across the board, something very little in the GK dex can. So in friendly games I may very well be throwing this guy in the mix, but I think he'll end up riding the pine in more competitive environments.

His Beamer is actually a super old-skool space marine scout heavy bolter with some bits removed and some other bits added. I think it looks suitably beamer-ish, even with the clip sticking out of the front.

I will likely add a third servo-type-arm that has a bladed end to count as his power weapon, but I wanted to leave his armour a little plain to distiguish him from the rest of the blinged out Custodes, and really this is a model that you could throw into any army that has a techmarine with beamer option. I had even thought about using this dood as a counts as =][= for a Mechanicum themed =][= warband or even whole army in the future...

And finally a little booty shot for all the fellas out there.

What does everyone think? Do Techmarines really blow? Are conversion beamers even remotely effective? Comments and critics always welcome.

+ Custodes in Plastic: WIP It! Jetbikers!

Hello Tubes,

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I just wanted to drop a quick update on the Custodes. Here is the 'counts as' Interceptors squad. I feel like a 12in move and the ability to 'Shunt' once a game seemed to fit the rules for a jetbike, and since one of the three major aspects of the Custodes are the Jet-bikers. So this is my rendition of those. Some people like to make the Jet-bikes really big and bulky, which is cool, but I just wanted to make them based off of marine bikes (especially because I had half of a Ravenwing box laying around and I didn't plan on adding any more bikes to my mixed wing).

This is the team captain, that mace is likely to be a counts as hammer, but doesn't have to be. He was made using:

a Chaos Warriors' head with added wingy bits
Ravenwing biker legs
and the torsoes from the high elfs box that the pointy heads came from

The bikes are:

Space Marine bikes
Ravenwing Land Speeder missile launcher thingys for the front and back 'jets'
Chaos vehicle face-thingy as the intake for the 'jets'
a standard bike front plate coupled with a Ravenwing front plate

In the art the Jet-bikers are armed with javelin spear deals but since I want to be essentially WYSIWYG and don't want to spend all the points on Halberds for everyone I am just giving them swords, except the captain who could have a 'hammer' if points allow.

Speaking of WYSIWYG seeing as how a bike base and a 25 mm are nowhere near the same size I decided to incorporate a 25mm base into my bike bases so there can be no calls of shenanigans, or that I am modeling for advantage. Clearly these models are way bigger then they are supposed to be but I feel like the base is the critical part so I really wanted to represent both the base size I think looks good on the model but also include the proper size base for gaming.

I also wanted to throw in one of my 'counts as' Psy-Cannons to give the squad some teeth.

Once again comments are always welcome and in case you missed my Squad Deux post because it kinda got bumped by my Macho man news flash have look and let me know what you guys think.

I also finished a test model (just a Tac Marine) I will try to get posted as a reference for how to do the gold painting and I think it turned out pretty good. If I don't get him posted it won't be long before I post the squad I am working on. So I hope alls is well out there in the big old real world and thanks for having some Buddy Times with me.

Police said he may have suffered a "medical event" before the accident, but the report did not elaborate, and it said officials would need to perform an autopsy to know for sure.

The report said a woman in the vehicle, identified as Barbara L. Poffo, 56, suffered minor injuries. A statement from Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment said the passenger was the wrestler's current wife. Both were wearing their seatbelts, according to the police report.

"Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans," the statement said.

Savage was a charismatic wrestler made famous for his "Macho Man" nickname and his "Oooh Yeah!" catchphrase. He was a champion in Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation, and later Ted Turner's now-defunct World Championship Wrestling.

Poffo was under contract with WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE and Intercontinental Championships.

"Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife," WWE said.

Savage defined the mega-watt personalities of the 1980s World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). He wore sequined robes bejeweled with "Macho Man" on the back, rainbow-colored cowboy hats and colorful bandanas and oversized sunglasses, part of a unique look that helped build the WWF into a mainstream phenomenon.

For most of his career, his valet, Miss Elizabeth, was by his side. The woman, Elizabeth Hulette, was his real-life wife at the time. They later divorced, and Hulette died in 2003 at 42 in what was later ruled a prescription drug overdose.

Savage's death was not the first to catch the wrestling world by surprise.

Chris Benoit killed his wife and son and then committed suicide in their Georgia home in 2007; Benoit was 40.

Eddie Guerrero was 38 when he died of a heart attack in 2005 after a history of alcohol and drug problems.

Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig died of a cocaine overdose in 2003 at 44. That same year, Michael "Road Warrior Hawk" Hegstrand died from a heart attack at 46. He had battled alcohol and drugs, as well as steroids.

In 1999, wrestler Owen Hart, 33, was killed when he fell from an apparatus as he was being lowered into the ring from the ceiling of Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

The WWF made Savage their champion after a win over Ted DiBiase in the main event at WrestleMania in 1988.

Savage had not appeared for a major wrestling organization since 2004, when he performed for Total Nonstop Action.

He was at times both the most popular and most hated wrestler in entertainment. His flying elbow off the top rope was mimicked by basement and backyard wrestlers everywhere. Savage made good use of his deep, raspy voice as a corporate pitchman as well, for years ordering Slim Jim fans to "Snap into a Slim Jim!"

He's most known for his legendary rivalries with Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair. Wrestlers took to Twitter to let fans know Savage won't be forgotten.

"There's probably five or six of us, with Andre (the Giant) and Hogan and thankfully myself and Flair, that, when their names pop up, even if you're not a fan, you know who in the hell these people are," said former wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. "You say, `I know this guy. I know Macho Man Randy Savage.' He was part of that breed. We lost a good one."

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson hailed Savage as one of his childhood inspirations and heroes, while Mick "Cactus Jack" Foley called Savage "one of my favorite performers."

Hogan said he and Savage had just started talking again after 10 years.

"He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him," Hogan wrote.

While so many personalities who left the WWF for WCW like Hogan, Roddy Piper and Mean Gene Okerlund were welcomed back to the company and even inducted into the Hall of Fame, Savage never returned.

Rhodes said Savage had prudently saved his money and was content to remain out of the spotlight.

"He was a recluse, almost," Rhodes said by phone. "Whatever he was doing, he wanted that privacy. Yeah, he was out of the picture for 10 years, but he didn't want to be in the picture."

Savage was a minor league catcher in the 1970s for St. Louis and Cincinnati before turning in the uniform for tights. His father, Angelo Poffo, was a longtime wrestler, and his brother, "Leaping" Lanny Poffo, was also a 1980s WWF mainstay. Condolences from fans poured in to Lanny Poffo's Facebook page on Friday.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.

+ Custodes in Plastic: Squad Deux +

Hello Intertubez,

Just a little show and tell to show the progress on squad deux. These guys are the push up close incinerator squad who will be the tip of the spearhead (the most sensitive part) and will ride in a Rhino so they can open up dual incinerators out of the hatch if need be.

Since the incinerators are free for purifiers this squad is the cheapy of the troops choices so I threw in the hammer and falchions, not only to make some other weapons model-wise besides guardian spears but to give this squad the extra close-combat flippy-ness and punch I want them to have.

Again with the heavy/special weapons I wanted to go with the elongated design seen in the terminator Custodes art. Although I like the incinerator 'head' so much I didn't want to put a dragon head on there even though I probably should have but I think it works. There is also another incinerator dude who is kneeling but I sole him from my dark angels army and he wasn't photographing too well so he'll show up when I post all the group shots in the near future.

Here is the falchion buddy, if he looks familiar it's because it's part of the lack Reach Captain. I decided to only give him one little sword and one regular sized one because I think it looks pretty cool and to just mix it up a bit.

Alright everyone here is the list I am working towards for my Custodes army. I would like some feedback from any of the more game oriented players out there as I tend to more the hobby/fluff side of things.

It is a purifiers list but I also threw in a squad of interceptors, so I could make Custodes 'jet-bikes' as well as squad of terminators, which I have not started on yet, and a dreadnought. This way I feel I have a semi-competitve tourney list but also am rocking out all of the variations on the Custodes that I have seen in the art that represents them. + WIP It! The goldknight onslaught continues: Who needs Castellan Crowe?

So the show and tell continues today with my 'counts as' Castellan Crowe. As I have said before I want my Custodes to be Marines++ and Purifiers seems like the way t give them that extra edge over standard Marines, and once I give them all Halberds and whatever they end up being as cost effective as strike squads, I think. I know Crowe is a terrible HQ but I feel like if accomandeers a a vehicle and either hides in my back field as the ultimate F-U counter assault with his sacrifice power or as a suicidal uber model killer I think I can make him work.

Anyway onto the model:

He is rocking the arm mounted Storm Bolter and people may hate on this but I feel like the Grey Knights had have taken that design from somewhere and with Horus' claw, and some other examples, the concept of wrist mounted bolters was not unheard of in the Heresy era, and I think it look pretty sweet.

He is made of:

Dark Angels legs and other wingy bits
Sanguinary Guard torso with the icons altered to remove the blood drips
Grey Knights Sword arms and back-pack
High Elf Head
Chaos Warriors Cape

There are also some random eagle and wing bits from wherever they're from as well

Hello Everybody once again,

Just wanted to let you guys see the rhno that will go with the first squad of Custodes I have been working on. I tried to make it have some old-skool flavor by making a new front plate, and I may try to figure a way to make the round side doors as well but I have not yet figured a way to cut perfect circles out of pasti-card, although I tried to miserable result.

This is the “sword squad” as you can see the sword icons all over it, and I am working on a “hammer squad” rhino as well. Really these are just ways to give the squads markings so I know who's supposed to be were which can be difficult for an army were each squad will essentially all be very similar to one another.

I also tried to make the hatches look pre-heresy by flipping the tops upside down and adding in some IG handles to it.

That also brings me to my next point which is that I would actually like to run these as Razorbacks occasionally but Razors are not pre-heresy, So question for the blogisverse: could it be an exceptable excuse that even though Marnie chapters did not use razors could the Custodes with their access to cool tech have been fielding proto-pre-heresy-razorback-type-rhinos? Or am I trying to create a fluff theme but with a competitve edge, and that is really the problem?

Also: news flash for those who have not yet looked at any forum or various other blogs GW finally decided to tell everyone what is up with the metal famine that's been going on and the solution is resin!

Part of me dreads the price hike that will be accompanied by the Finecast range but the potential for GW to release Forge World level detail in the future definitely has me a bit excited.... So my opinion is mixed a little bit miffed at ANOTHER price hike on what were already expensive metal models but I am stoked at the potential for quality increase n the future and resin is way nicer to work with them metal IMHO, but only time will tell the full repercussions of this move.

...and as a final pimpin' for the community of bloggers I wanted to mention that the guys over at Wolfs for the WolfGod are having a give-away for their one-hundredth post. So go check them out and congrats guys for reaching the 100 mark.

+WIP it! Custodes Librarian with Servo Skulls+

So the Custodes continues on their way. Today I am showing the Librian I made as an HQ for my 'Gold Knights' army; aka Custodes count as Grey Knights. There to my knowledge is not a piece of art depicting a Librarian so I again improvised and tried to echo other themes in the army or artwork.

One of the main features of the Custodes Terminators is the old-skool styled shoulder pads, and those were made using some of the extra leg guards from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue. Another smaller detail is the kinda Roman style strips that hang down from the shoulder pads which I made using the bit that comes in the Space Marine Captain set, but if I end up making the five more termies I want in the army I need to figure out a way of fabricating them out of plasti-card strips or something.

Obviously the cape was a no-brainer to give him some gusto and have him fit the rest of the force. I blinged him up with a bunch of eagle wings and what-nots, but really this is probably going to be the least converted model in the army since their is nothing really changing the core model besides adding stuff to him.

So there he is if anyone has feedback I am happy to hear it.

Now onto the Servo-skulls, one of the secret reasons I want to use this model, and I may even be throwing in a Tech-Marine to take more as well.

Here's the first three, I wanted to make cool little mini-dioramas and have the skulls kinda sneaking around or whatever they do... Float I guess

Here's two more that I have, the one on the left is the devastator one with Dark Angel wings on his head, it works well so I don't have any doubles. I have one final skull to complete but he requires painting before assembly so I'll show him when I get some paint on him.

Hello Intertibes,

So here is the main project I have been working on for the past little while. It's the custodes if you didn't notice, and with the new Grey Knights book I finally feel like there is a rules set that could do them justice. I am planning on running a Crowe list so that all these guys can be purifiers. After doing the math to give basically every dudem a halberd it just does not seem cost effective to not just take Crowe and get all those juicy, cheap upgrades as part of your troops choice.

I know many of you will say trike Squads are better, and that may be true, but if you have been reading this blog at all in the past you may have noticed I am a pretty big fluff bunny so I don't care that I may not be working with an optimized list. I want each Custodes to be awesome and the I6 halberd, A2 base seems to give them the extra boost over rank and file marines the fluff dictates they should have IMHO.

A couple modeling things:

Although the Guardian Spears are modeled with only a Bolter I feel they could 'count as' a storm bolter
yes I gave them back-packs. I know most of the art does not have them in back-packs but some of the art does have them sporting back-packs and honestly the back-pack is such a 'marine' thing that I felt weird not having them there, the back-packs that is (wow can I write back-pack any more in one bullet point?)
I also had to come up with a method of including heavy weapons and look as I may none of the art show standard Custodes with a heavy weapon that I could find. The terminators are depicted with those crazy long flamer thingys and I thought I would copy the long barrel theme and put that into my heavies to stay within the feel of the artwork.
Lastly I also included a hammer guy in the squad, in the fluff it often says that although the Guardian Spear is 'standard' for the Custodes they also have access to all manner of restricted wargear so I figured throwing a few hammers into the mix wouldn't hurt anything, and from a game perspective I think they are going to be clutch.

Right now I am just gonna throw up some pics I will do a more in depth break-down of all the bits used in a near-future post, but anyway enough blabbing and here's some show and tell:

Speaking of heavies this is the model that I feel will get the most weird looks but as I have said I needed to figure a way to model these guys into the army and I really dig the long neck with gryphon head guy he is sporting, it will function as a Psi-cannon (which is basically an assault cannon)

Hello Tubez and welcome to the buddy times.

After this whole Blogger thing happened it kinda threw a wrench into my program but no sweat My long over due hobby show and tell continues with the Forge World piece Khorne Lord Zhufor

I've had this guy around for awhile but I did some finishing touches to him and He is all wrapped up in my opinion. I mainly run him as a 'counts as' Abbaddon in my World Eater themed list, but really that is just an excuse to use this sweet model in game.

Not much to say, with al the awesome Forge World detail on this guy he was super fun to paint

On the cape I wanted to go for a really weathered and dirty thing, I don't think a blood crazed psychotic who considers human remains jewelry to be overly obsessed with cleanliness. I acheived this color by stippling a bunch of different shades mixed between Bone and burnt seinna tan color (bubonic brown?), I am away from my paints at the moment but both are the GW versions and I watered them down very alot and just did layer after layer of stippling. I think the effect comes across very nicely and am looking forward to trying a toned down version in red on my Custodes that I will be posting some WIP pics of in the next day or two.

Hello the united nations of the interwebs,

Just wanted to share a little fantasy action for all y'all it's Vampire Count Vlad. I actually shared some dark and crappy pics of this model awhile ago but I just wanted to test my new photo set-up and it is working well it seems.

So onto the model.
I painted him up in a semi-metallic red armour, and a kind of greenish skin hue which I think looks unique but goes well with the rest of the model. I did the blood on the sword using some Tamiya Clear Red paint which when mixed with a drip of black ink makes some of the most realistic blood I has ever been able to create or have even seen actually. (got to give credit to Lonewolf on the Throne of Skulls Forum)

I gave him some crazy red pupils which are almost not visible to the naked eye but really pop in this picture.

and to round out he show and tell a little shot of the junk in the trunk... in this case a big furry cape with ghost faces emerging fro the folds.

Anyway not alot of chit chat today just wanted to drop some pics of this model that actually show off some of the detail. Also this guy is also going up to the chopping block at Ebay so if you want a sweet HQ for your Vampire counts army or Mordheim gang or whatever let me hook you up!

Hey everyone back again, again

So I dug out some lights I had out in the shed and took a couple more pics, I have also adjusted the expose and some other settings to try and make it look the closest to real life. The problem with the color scheme I'm working on is that the colors are very similar to one another but are distinctly different from one another. Just now when I was taking this last batch of pics I had the thought that this is almost like a Boba Fett quality to their armour, but darker then his.

Alright Anti-pope here's a painted model for your personal amusement. No really I'm ust kidding, after I posted the last pics I realized I wasn't actually showing much, so I just banged this dude out and here he is my first actually 'complete(minus little clean-up on the face and painting the base the rest of the way)' Guardsmen. He's been awhile in the making but I feel like I have it worked out so they should fly pretty quick. I am trying to keep quality and ambience up while keeping time to actually paint them down.

The things I have added/completed since last post:

Armour has been second stage highlighted and battle damaged

I did the skin tones trying to stay in that sickly off white color

and I gave them a little red triangle to make them match the tanks better.

Anyway I hope the color is a little more visible on these models and would love more c&C thanks everyone again.

+WIP IT: Traitor Guard Models with paint on them+

Happy New Year Tube Heads,

Hope you'ree al home safe after a long night of debachery.

Anyway thought I would throw up a little WIP IT shot of my paint scheme. I know its been awhile since I posted my first test mini shots and the color scheme has changed a bit. It's more contrasty (in comparision to the old version) and uses a couple more colors. These are in no way close to finished but I wanted to show the colors of the armour, the fatigues and the boots.

I think its still a bit hard to make some of the color I boosted the contrast to help but its only a close approximation. I used the airbrush to spray the first colors onto the whole model which was black and black grey from Vallejo Model Air range, then I brushed onto the armour plates Charadon Granite and washed the boots, belt or anything leather as well as the Lasgun with a heavy Badab Black washes, 2 or 3 layers depending. Used the heavy washes to still keep the highlight/shadows the airbrush creted ut wanted those leather pieces of kit to be much darker so using the wash as a glaze I think acheived that effect.

And finally you can see I sloppy and quickly added the first line highlight onto the carapace armour, which will get another lighter strip of highlight ontop probably straight codex grey, this first one is 2-1 Charadon Grantie with Codex Grey (I dilute all my paints with Flo-aid-water, the mix ratio is just for the paint)

Let me know what you guys think so far I think I'mm finally on the right path, but let me know I am going to try and get some color on their skin soon-ish so I will keep the updates rolling.

welcome back to another edition of WIP IT!

Just wanted to share the progress I've made on my lastest side-track project. I'm going to keep this one brief but will do a big parts overview sometime very soon because this guy is an amgalm of many of my grade A bits.

Gave him a totally blinged out base, and I think it holds him well and my idea is that it puts him at an indoor location, like the Imperial palace.

Back shot to sshow tthe cape, and yes I know it's a little beat up but I want this guy to be in the thick of combat, so I think it works.

Hello Intertubez,

Buddy times is back again with a little sidetrack WIP IT I've been working on. It's a Custodes, and I know he's not wearing his big pointy helmet. That is because I have yet to buy some high elf models so this head is just ticky-tacked on for now and I have to decide if this dude is rding dirty or if he wears his helmet.

I had been comtemplating modelling up some Legio Custodes ever since I saw US White Dwarf 300 with the Dave Taylor Custodes army in it, but have never really felt competent enough. Well apparently that feeling of inadequacy dissolving coupled with the rumors surrounding the new Grey Knight Codex (perfect 'counts as' Custodes as far as I can tell). I felt that I should start some character modelling and throwing ideas around. I always start with a character when I build a new army because that way if I don't like the look, feel, process, etc I can abandon the project without a huge amount of investment.

Also I love HeroHammer. Don't get me wrong I want there to be carnage all over the board but especially I want lots of action around the big personalities on the table. I guess thats the comic book/movie geek in me I want my heros to be completely bad-ass, and when my leader ends up in combat with the other guys leader I wanna see sparks fly and feelings to get hurt (feeling getting hurt is just a joke phrase used by my game group). I find the game more interesting that way, because I appreciate the focus on the personality of the army often embodied in the HQ or at least a particular squad, etc.

WIP IT: Legio Custodes

Here's a top down-ish shot of the Guardian Spear. It turned out pretty well I feel but would appreciate input if you all have any.

Little close-up of his shoulder insignia, the single headed Aquila. I will also use the two-headed eagle throughout as most art I have seen often includes one or the other and many times both, but I wanted to make his shoulder icon have the single head. You can also see I haven't filled in the legs so they appear smooth. I think I will only do it on the lower leg and leave the upper leg with the exposed supports, not sure yet.

Here's a shot of his 'Eligos Pattern' back-pack but this one has the eagle heads from the Space Marine Commander box instead of skulls. I haven't attached this yet as I need to work out a cape situation, whether that is sculpting it or kit-bashing it.

And finally I have this bit and I am curious if I should use it, it fits nicely and all, but what, if anything, do I need to do to the actual shape of the shield so it doesn't look like an =][= symbol. I had thought that maybe it could be as simple as to cut of the three little horizontal bars on there, but could use some input on this one.

Hello Inter-tubez,

Happy holidays to everyone and I hope it's all working out well for everyone. Just wanted to show some actual hobby progress to everyone, I am still slowly chugging along on my Rebel Guard army, and now have eerything at least built into sub assemblies so that I can play an essentially WYSIWYG game. I will get a group shot tomorrow hopefully when I do some gaming with the homies, although I have been intending on doing that for the last three weeks of gaming, so we'll see.

What see up top and below are my Chimera interiors I made.

I did a little research back when I made the psyker mutie transport and it's interior and in the schematic drawings shown in the Imperial Armour books from the Forge World there is a wall between the troop compartment and the crew compartment. This made it easy when I had the idea that I would create full interiors for all the vehicles in this army. Since all I had to do was close off the front (just like a rhino) someone could open all the doors and have a look inside without seeing an empty box essentially.

These top two pics are for the Command Chimera. I wanted to give this one some extra bling and equipment, like the view screens I stole from a rhino and I put a filed down vox on the wall as well although I am not sure you can tell what it is it may just look like more doo-dads, which is really the point anyway.

And finally this one is the basic troop model. Very simple two benches and a spare las-gun. With the psyker muties transport looking like a charnel ground/prison and the command one with all the gadgets I though it only appropriate that the standard transport be totally bare-bones. (already primed this one black so I tweaked the F outta the curves so you can make out the inside)

Well Tell me what you guys think, should I add more or are they good to go? Have you ever wondered why GW didn't just make a piece to go there (just like a rhino)? Anyway happy holidays and I just took some pics of another side-track project I started and I will get those up soon.

I hope everyone has been well the old Hashshashin's been in deep hiding taking care of family business, but I'm back and I want to try to ad create a post schedule thats less frequent then my bing, every single day posts and my famine no posts for a month cycle I find myself in.

Anyway not gonna talk about 40k today, I wanted to talk about Tron. I just saw the 12:01 3D IMAX last night and I gotta say it was pretty awesome. The 3-D wasn't particularly mind blowing by any means but the overall design and feel of the characters was superb and possibly the Tron-world is one of best and most cohesive design schemes I've seen ever, really.

As far as the plot is concerned I found it to be interesting and engaging although somewhat cheesy at points but never was it convoluted or forced it was as good, and even better, then can be expected for a Christmas-time thrill ride type flick. It had some Spiritual or philosophical tones that I appreciated as well as a straight forward plot.

The effects and action are top notch and really enjoyable to watch. The way the light ribbons trail off of the various vehicles not only looks amazing but it actually allows you to follow the action easily without confusion. I only mention this because I think other effects driven flicks sometimes are hard to tell what the hell is going on (transformers I looking at you!).

Overall I would say this film is a must see of the season and for this one the bigger the screen the better In my opinion, but don't sweat it if you can't catch in 3-D it didn't really have the awesome distance shots I was hoping for and nothing on par with some the crazy-ness seen in Avatar, but I liked Tron overall much more than Avatar. (I felt it somewhat necessary to compare these two)

+WIP IT! Bombard!

Hello ubestays,

Hope all is well, just wanted to drop some WIP IT! pics of my top secret weapon, the Bombard from Forge World. I gotta say this thing is even cooler then I thought it would be. Although it has been a pain at some points with some pieces being warped and whatnot. but I didn't really expect anything easier so I am overall totally happy with this model.

In the top pic the cannon is literally just rested on top, here's a shot of the interior and below is a shot kinda from the top so you can get the idea of the model.

Also went ahead and bought the Bombard ammo box and shells. The model itself comes with one shell so now I have four and the cool little box. I will be basing this on a 40m and making it into another object token in the same vein as the gas and ammo dumps.

And finally I also have one other little wip here, its the planetary Governor model I've made as an objective in our upcoming campaign (which hopefully will start sooner then later). The model is just one of the IG advisor models based on a 40m to make it objective-token-like. Since in the fluff the Governor gets assassinated I thought it would be cool to put one of those Skull and bones signs from the mines, and booby trap set behind as some foreshadowing.

Just a quickie today, got in a bit of Air-Bro time in yesterday and this is the result:

A bit blurry on the pics, sorry about that but I just wanted to give you guys a quick glimpse of how the progress is happening. And in response to Frag Dad's comment on the last post I will try to film a quick Tutorial of how the magic happens with this color modulation technique, not only on the base vcolor but the tiger stripes as well. Hopefully get that videoed and post in the next couple of days.

Then as a quick final note:

Two Guys painting will likely return Tomorrow night around 8pm mountain time, this isn't 100% but I will drop a post to let people know what's up. Hello everybody,

its been awhile since my last post, but I hope everone is well, I've just been super busy with regular life stuff so the hobby is still happening but the hobby of blogging about my hobby has taken a bit of a back-seat.

I'll start off with some show & tell then finish off with some deep thoughts I've been having lately.

So roll out the Russ. Again I'm working with a color modulation technique, this one a little less bright, and I like the darker grey look overall and will use that for the rest of the vehicles. The Chimera that is already colour coted is for the psyker battle squad so I think the fact that it is different works with the fluff and eliminates any confusion about who were on the table-top/battle-field.

They still will get the tiger stripes of red like the previous Chimera as well so thematically the army should tie together quite nicely.

Anyway onto the deep thoughts:

So I've been looking at Blogs a lot lately and I feel I fall into the same category which is that I am offering images and pictures of my latest projects but I don't really feel like I am necessarily adding anything unique to the discussion. I've thought about different avenues I could work with and nothing really jumps out.

So I'm left with the feeling that my blog although fun for me is really just an echo chamber for my own thoughts and not really adding to or, Iguess, enriching the hobby. So what do you think is just plugging along and blogging about my latelest model or list or game really something that people want or should blogs attempt to offer something more meaningful to the hobby world?

Hello All,

Been Super busy lately but here's a quick glimpse of one of the things I've been working on.

A pair of Leman Russ Battle tanks, one new and one old skool styley. I think I'm going to leave the side plates off the old skool one, I feel it adds to the renegade feel. I do think I need to put something on the side, inside the tracks, but I'm not too sure what that should be. And that dude in the middle is one of the Guard Crewmen from GW, I will be giving him the dreadlock treatment to match the rest of my melta vet squad.

Any way I'll get some new pics taken of a couple things I've been picking away at, the Freaky Freaky ApC's interior is getting near done and I've gotten some more paint on the Fortress of Redemption as well so I'll get those posted in the next couple days.

Hello All Y'all (all Y'all is the plural form of Y'all, icyww),

Back again with another intallment of the Buddy Times, a place were grown men get out their little buddys and play with them, and paint them, and show them to each other. It's really about sharing.

So this week I wanted to share my WIP of a test model I'm working on, I think this is what I'm going to go with, as far as the Cloth and the base tone of the flesh. I think the cloth may need another highlight but I think maybe that can be corrected more easily during the initial painting then trying to back-peddle, so I'll likely let this little buddy ride and and try to allow more of the gray base-coat to show through on the next one.

I turned the Brightness up on this one to try and show some of the colors in the cloth, I would really appreciate any input on this one guys because I like it, but I am not 1oo% on it, and its a freakin' guard army so I don't want to paint 50 little guys then decide I don't like it, Ya' know?

Here's just a back shot, its hard to make out but there is a pretty nice ggray to black gradient on his vox pack thingy

Anyway let me know what you guys think please, and I'll post any further developments as they are happing.

Welcome back to the Buddy Times Every-tuber,

Was just gonna show you guys a quick WIP it! pics of the Fortress of Redemption I'm working on in my spare hobby time (read: really, really free time...so not that often). But I'm hoping to just put a little time to complete the dang fence, and tower-thing so we can use it in the upcoming Campaign (I will be posting about it more in detail shortly).

For those who haven't seen this beast in person that red line is an 18in GW Wippy-Stik

And the first pic just shows the bulk of the whole thing.

Trying to go for a concrete stone type look, not totally finished but I think with some Develon Mud washes it'll be good to go.

And now with Airbrush super power I think I can do a couple of cool things with the MASSIVE angel statue on each of the four sides of the tower. I have held off going beyond this point because I wasn't quite sure what to do with all that real estate. I'm still not but between the Airbrush and the campaign I gotta figure something out, so I'll keep you guys posted.

Hello everyone out in the interwebs,

So quick wanted to remind everyone that this Sunday at 8pm Mountain time is another exciting installment of Two Guys Painting we got some nice things lined up to share and also a couple topics as well, so join the painting party in progress from your house and chill with the Buddys and paint some buddys.

Now that I've got the sameless plug out of the way I wanted to give a progress update on the prototype for my vehicle paint-scheme, I think I like it alot, but I'm not sure I'll get some pics of my tezt infantry model and put them together to see what people think I would love some feedback from people.

I created the disruptive pattern using an airbrush technique of shading each panel of armour on the tank seperatly. I started with a nice black tank and feathered Codex Gray about 2/3 down each panel shielding or masking with tape the other panels and finally adding a final shade of Dheneb Stone to finish off the three color base scheme.

For the 2nd layer of the color scheme, the red tiger stripes, I laid down a smooth layer of Mechrite Red and feathered Blood Red pver it. and finished with a mix of Blood Red and Macharius Solar Orange to finish off the highlighted and brightest areas. I also switched the direction the highlight are facinhg at this step, I am not sure I'll do this on all the tanks I just wanted to see how it would come out, but I do like it.

I chose to go with the tiger stripes because I just started to get images of triangles in my mind when I was brainstorming patterns and I figures that tiger stripes were the best way to have triangles but still utilize some of the painting real estate on the top of the Chimera model. By linking the two sets of triangles on the opposite sides of the vehicle it creates a cool striped thing and I like that.

I also used the stripes to conceal a couple of errors from the first wave of spraying, so that is nice too. Now I'm going to use various weathering techniques to conceal the mistakes from this stage. So thats nice.

So let me know if I'm onto something or if you think this looks like crap, and remember two guys painting this Sunday, our super duper battle report will hopefully be ready in time and if not 100% complete enough to really give you guys an idea of what we think is possible.

Hello everybody,

Had a crazy busy week so far but I have been able to shoehorn in a bit of painting and buddy time so I thought I share my newest work from the dungeon. Air Brush City all the way.

Just working on some techniques and this is a WUP shot I plan on doing asome type of tiger striped camo/di pattern on it which will also have the extreme three shade highlights I think the effect is going to blow my mind.

And here's a sloppy WIP pic of a DA successor I sprayed up and am now brushing in some finer details, so more pics when he nears or is completion.

On the Two Guys Painting front we will return for our second week and do some painting as well as talk hobby, news and maybe I'll talk a bit ore about the airbrush. and just generally have some Buddy Times. So please check us out Sunday at 8pm MST.

Hello everyone out in the tube-lands,

Today I beacame the happy owner of an airbrush. Needless to say I'm totally stoked on it and am just now re-organizing the man-cave to also function as an airbrush nook.

I purchased the Iawata HP_CS gravity fed guy, just holding it is pretty damn sexy (pardon my boyhood excitement) and I'm really looking forward to joining the ranks of 4oK hobbyists who are currently rocking air. Any way I'll keep everyone posted as developments occur.

On another exciting front John Henry and myself are going to be hosting a live U-Stream Show called "Two Guys Painting" starting tomorrow night at 8pm mountain standard time. It gonna be a split screen of us boith painting while we shoot the breeze about the hobby, and other off topic discussion, hopefully it will be alot of fun and like bringing a painting party into your house. So please join us for that, and I'll post more specific details tomorrow so stay tuned.

Also a quick show and tll here's just a couple of quick objective markers I maade for an upcoming campaign we here at The Buddy Times are going to be playing. I wanted somethin sutably generic and also could be used to represent a stragem from some of the 'campaign styled books like Cities of Death and Planetstrike.

First Tourney

What's up busters? So a few weeks ago I played my first Warhammer 40k tournament. You might have read about it in Hash's post. He took best painted (adeptus of mars, I think). I took home a big bag of humiliation. Not really, I had tons of fun and didn't really commit my mind entirely to the game. So I wasn't hurt when I got my blue-tide-ass handed to me, by not one, two, but three corrupted armies of the taint...chaos. Thousand Sons, Demon swarms, and some World Eaters (a la Blood Angels). Not only was it my first tournament but also the first time I've ever played anyone but close friends. Weird huh. I got out of my living room bubble and it was great.

I ran my one and only Ultramarines 4^th Company army, here pictured. This was the 1850 list I used for the tournament. After playing it and thinking about it, there's major reworking I plan on doing. Mainly dropping the Devs, and taking a command squad for the captain (which I'm currently modeling, Hash, where's my power sword!). Also trying to squeeze in another Dreadnough or maybe a vindicator. Options, Options, Options. Other then that the core of the army is great. The three Tact squads, the Ven. Dread, and Captain always perform well.

Anyway. Yeah I run vanilla-ass Marines but I would play no other army. So mad props to Total Escape Games, in Broomfield, for running the tournament, and what's up to all the players. I look forward to crushing you Rommel style next time. Peace.

+Freaky Freaky APC+ Psyker Muties needed a ride

Hello,

Just wanted to throw up some pics of my Psyker Mutie's ride, the Prison style Chimera. I wanted hte inside to have a cannabilistic mutants are trapped in there feel. During the painting process I'm really going to push my weathering and layering skills on this one.

Having worked mainly on STC rhino and LR hulls the Chimera's interior is not sculpted but is very large and easily visible with the rear hatch open, so there's alot of real estate to work with in there.

I wanted the top hatch and possibly the rear door to have bars over them instead of the standard hatch to show off the freaky interior more even when the tank is all closed up.

Here you're getting the first glimpse of the inside, I thought a little meat for the freaks was appropriate so there's a Kroot leg o' man hanging in there from the ceiling, and I'll probably add more things to the ceiling, possibly a light hanging from a chain or whatnot.

I had this weird lizadman skull thing laying around and I thought it seemed like some heretical mutant psyker stuff and fit the vibe of what I was going for. There are also some chains and a little altar/shrine thingy in the rear as well as scattered mutant lunch remnants (bones and skulls).

So again please feel free to comment and tell me if it looks like you think it should, or not

Hello Tube Dwellers,

Hope all is well, I'm still on the road and in Richmond, VA again after a short trip to D.C. to visit some friends... All I have to say is Italians can drink, after polishing off more than 1.5 liters of wine with my lady's BFF's new Italian husband he broke out some crazy unpronounceable (to me anyways) ginger flavored Liquor which got me wasted quick like! Needless to say hung over Breakfast at The Diner more than hit the spot this morning before taking the baby to the DC Zoo to see all the caged animals.

But anyways on the way back south towards Richmond we swung by the venue of the NOVA Open but we missed the action and it was looking pretty abandoned over there so didn't even get out of the car, oh well maybe next year....

So show and tell time for everyone to enjoy (hopefully), so onto the buddys:

After some contemplation I decided to use Fantasy Ghouls as my Mutie Psyker 'counts as' Psyker Battle squad, and here they are. They really aren't converted at all but I figured they look sutabley freakish and could not be confused with ANY other unit in my army so that works for me.

Hey all,

Just a quick news flash from the road, Forge World is at it again with all the Mareenz upgrade paks, and man are they pretty dern cool looking. I was a pretty big fan of the Umbra Ferroxpattern bolters but I got to say these new Phobos Pattern ones are even cooler in my opinion. They really seem like a fusion of some of the older models from the Rogue Trader and 2nd ed. days with some of the more modern 'realistic' designs.

Also Mk V [see above], and the much loved 'Beakies' MK VI

Well, I'm still in VA and just realized the NOVA Open is only like 30 minutes from where I am, so I'm going to try to talk the lady into stopping by there on our way up to D.C. So if the Warboss permits there will be a field report in the next day or so.

Just a quick show and tell for all y'all out there. This is a Vampire fantasy model, anbd is the first fantasy model I've ever painted. Initially I thought the model seems really flat, but after painting him up I have actually started to really love the face and some of the other features.

Overall I think it is a nice model, and it's basically right out of the blister. Its a little weird for me that the only 'assembly' was gluing him to the base, he did come with a little thingy that is supposed to be floating out of his cape but I didn't like it so I left it off.

As always comments are welcome, tell me what you think, is his skin too green?

Product Review: Plano Pistol Case

In the interest of storing and transporting my army, and saving more then a few bucks; I've purchased two pistol cases. My man Hashshashin tipped me off to these cases, one of which he originally bought at Wall-Mart. They are the: Plano Four-Pistol/Accessory Case, model # 1404-02. I picked mine up at Jax, a local Colorado outdoors type store, for 15.95 each baby. That's right $32 for total storage! So what's in the case? Well first off the case is about 16X14X6 inches. It comes with three foam trays. Two with egg crate on one side and flat on the other, these pieces are 1.75 inches thick. The other tray is the pimp shit. This one is 1.25 inches thick and is made of a grid of half inch plugs that you can tear out at will to fit different things. I ended up using just an xacto to cut the small connecting bits from each plug to remove them. Tearing them out was too reckless and ended up ripping connections you didn't want to rip. But even then a little super glue fixed that right up. And there you have it.

To custom fit my Ultramarines army, weighing in at around 2500-3000 points, I used both cases I purchased, making one for infantry, and one for vehicles. The infantry ended up fitting the following, with room to spare. 52 marines, 16 terminators, this includes a few fancy models that take up more room than others (see pictures). In this case is the two “pull-foam” trays for the infantry, also one egg crate between them, and one egg crate on the top lid. The vehicle case has an egg crate on the top and bottom with the following in between. 1 Land Raider, 1 Vindicator, 3 Rhinos, 3 Dreadnoughts, 1 Land Speeder. There's not much room to spare but they fit comfortably and with the lid closed there is zero movement inside.

So at the end of the day, 32 dollars went a long way. I can easily store and transport my army. I can even spray paint some cool decals on the side, which I plan to do soon. On top of all that, these cases are still easily customized further with different foam tray and the like. Why spend more? If you're rich I guess. +Blood of Skulls: Tournament debrief+

Hello Intertubez,

Yesterday was a small 1850 tournament at one of the FLGS in the area so John Henry and myself cruised by to see what we could get into. I brought my Blood Smoker Legion of Khorne and John Henry feilded his 4th company Ultramarines. I will post my list and pics of the Army sooncome. But all in the all the event was quite nice and much fun was had by most, there'a always going to be some haters wherever you go, ya' know?

I again finished somewhere in the middle, but I was able score the Adapt of Mars award for best appearance. O.o Wow didn't expect that. I always put alot of time energy and effert into my painting and modelling but I often feel that really I'm just gearing up and someday my creations will really look the way I want them to, but that now ity's just a WIP. I gotta say this award is making me reconsider that concept, and maybe I'm making more progress then I thought initially. Anyways I was stoked to be acknowledged for my energy spent painting and modelling.

A note to true-scalers the Chaos Lord Kit is actually a bit larger than a standard Marine Termie so If you use it as a basis for a TS marine he'll be a bit bigger then even a 'normal' true scale.

Hello People,

Just wanted to remind people that today is the 65th anniversary of when the US dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan. There are many different ways one can approach this subject and debate on whether the A-Bomb should have been used or not. I will avoid all discussion of that here and just remind people that this happened in real life and it affected the all directly and indirectly involved as well as change the course of human history from that day forward. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.

Well when I was browsing the Forge world website this morning I noticed something very interesting.

Adding tto the MkIII set they announced last week we are now treated to the MkIV armour and more Bolter alternatives, and these have Sterngaurd written all over them.

+Buddy Hobby Time, Buddy+

Hello Everyone,

Just some hobby thoughts today about adding personality and character to your units.

Lately whenever I model a squad I always try to give the sergeant a little extra personality. I then use his personality and perceived action to set a theme for the squad. This is a style I developed during the making of my DeathWing Army. The Fluff for the DeathWing is that only the most trusted most Bad-@$$ doods even even become 'normal' DeathWing. So this led me to the idea that the DW Sergeants Should be even more of that stuff (trusted, awesome, etc). So I went on a quest to collect every 'special' terminator I could get. Any captain, hero, Chaplain, Forge World models I could find I would convert into DeathWing Captains or whatever.

Anyway back to my point which is if the captain is walking then the squad should look like walking as well, or at least in motion. If the captain has a static look the squad will look good in static poses as well. I know some people prefer 'dynamic poses' and some people prefer more posey poses but I think they all work just within the context of the Squad. Granted that context can be expanded to include the whole army so that everyone is charging or whatever but from a strictly logistical point of view in every kit there's a couple sets of lees walking/running, and couple sets posing. Obviously there are exceptions to this like Assault marines but as a general rule I find this to be true with 40k kits.

So this gives a great opportunity to look at the different bitz options you have available and make the squads have a unified feel. These guys are all holding up their Bolters and shooting, or these guys are just striking a victory pose after a hard fought win, and so on. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that you can't mix up the bits, nothing would be more boring then if every model was posed identically (that would be like... fantasy...;)).

This idea has just been on my mind lately as I build this guard army because my intention in making this army is equally in making a effective gaming force as much as an awesome opportunity to really take my modeling to the next level...hopefully.
